Eligibility
ALL types of project are eligible, including new-build, regeneration, conservation, conversion, interiors and extensions within the various categories listed below, projects completed within the last two years (from January 2009 to December 2011) located within the Aberdeen Chapter [incorporating Aberdeen City + Shire and Moray (East) Council areas] are eligible. The closing date for entries is Friday 16 December 2011.
Entry Criteria
Entry to the ASA Awards is free! Entries can be submitted by the architect or client/commissioning organisation. Each entry should be accompanied by a completed entry form, (multiple applications are allowed, additional forms are available to download below) a maximum of 6 digital images (300dpi jpg format) or print copies and a brief description of the project (max. 200 words) to include information on the Building and the Design Team members. Information can be submitted directly to awards@aberdeenarchitects.org, or in hard copy/ CD format to: ASA Design Awards, The Aberdeen Society of Architects, c/o Murray Restrup, Archial, 3 Bon Accord Crescent, Aberdeen, AB11 6XH. Please note the address has recently changed, and you should send entries to the above, rather than the address shown on the entry form.
Judging
Entries will be judged by category. The panel of judges (a full list will appear on this website) will be looking for projects which show innovation and design excellence, irrespective of size, type and whether new or adapted. Consideration will be given to design aesthetics, effectiveness of function, detailing and sustainability. Judging will be in two phases. It is intended that all shortlisted projects will be visited by the panel of judges. ASA reserves the right not to grant an award. The judges’ decision will be final.
Winning Entries
The Architect and Client/ commissioning organisation of each award winning project will be awarded certificates. Award winners and commendations will beadvised in advance and announced on the ASA website. Awards will be presented at the annual ASA Dinner, 09 March 2012. (Winners unable to attend the Awards Ceremony will have their certificates posted) By signing the entry form you confirm allowing the projects and submitted material to be used by ASA in publicity features, exhibitions and on the ASA website. Copyright consent is presumed and entrants should not submit material to which they do not own copyright or an appropriate usage permission.
Categories
A - Public/Commercial - Any commercial and industrial building.
B - Health/Education + Leisure - Any healthcare, educational leisure and sports building.
C - Residential - Including individual houses, extensions, residential developments, new-
build/renovation, amenity housing etc.
D - Conservation + Environmental Regeneration - Including landscape design, public amenities, restoration, conservation and environmental regeneration.
E - Small Works - Any category of project where the contract sum does not exceed £250,000.
F - Chapter Award - Any building designed by a registered ASA Chapter Architect/Practice anywhere in the World (including Aberdeen Chapter area).
All entries will be considered for the Best Building 2011 Award and Sustainability Awards. The Best Building winner will subsequently, if it qualifies; be submitted by the Chapter for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award 2012.
