We are all aware of the government’s requirement that all new homes to be carbon free but what impact is this likely to have on affordability and design quality? Many buildings clearly demonstrated this need not be the case. Recognizing that the winning designs could easily become benchmark prototypes for how we design our homes, we will only make homes truly sustainable if we are able to balance the need for reducing energy consumption with the need to ensure the comfort, health and well-being of the occupants clearly indicated in a number of winning individual house designs.
